Awareness

Understand the Data

Right now in Sedgwick County, over 1,500 of our most vulnerable children are stuck in an overloaded foster care system. More than 100 are awaiting adoption. Much of this could have been prevented if families had the support they needed. Abuse was listed as the primary reason for removal in only 28% of local cases.

Awareness Inspires Action

We know that true understanding is the first step toward meaningful change. Our Awareness Experiences are designed to help us better understand the needs of people in our community by providing a window into the realities families face. These immersive opportunities help individuals, churches, and organizations see the challenges, feel the weight of them, and discover their role in creating a better future.

Explore Immersive Experiences

We offer unique simulations and screenings that bring complex issues to life. Each experience is a powerful tool for building a more compassionate and responsive community.

COPE — The Cost of Poverty Experience

Step into the daily life of a family navigating poverty. COPE is a dynamic, hands-on simulation where participants are assigned roles within a low-income family. Throughout the experience, you will face the difficult decisions, systemic barriers, and persistent stress that many of our neighbors encounter every day. This is a chance to move from theory to a felt understanding of poverty.

Life in Limbo

See the child welfare system through the eyes of those living it. Life in Limbo is an immersive simulation that places you in the role of a biological parent, a foster parent, or a child in foster care. You will walk through the journey of disruption, placement, case plans, court hearings, and reunification efforts. This experience sheds light on the emotional and logistical complexities of the foster care system.

Sound of Hope Film Screening

Witness a powerful story of what is possible when a community answers the call with radical love. Sound of Hope tells the true story of Bishop W.C. Martin, Lady Donna Martin, and their small-town church that chose to adopt 77 children from the foster care system. Screening this film offers a moving testimony of faith, community, and the profound impact of saying “yes.”

Take the Next Step

Are you ready to foster greater awareness and inspire action within your church, organization, or group? We invite you to host one of these transformative experiences. By participating, you help build a network of care and support for vulnerable children and families in our community.
